Zoe the Dalmatian adopts a Spotted Lamb
At Bowerland Cottage Holidays and Devon Dogs we like hearing stories about all breeds of dog. We are super pleased to bring you a TRUE animal story this week about a Zoe the Dalmatian.
Black & White Lamb
Back in 2012 a lamb was born to breeders John and Julie Bolton with a distinct black and white coat. Sadly, the lamb was rejected by its mother for unknown reasons. Although John and Julie wouldn’t have abandoned it, the lamb had no parent or guardian figure to guide it and found itself lost.
That’s when the couple’s dog, a loving Dalmatian named Zoe, stepped in without hesitation. According to them, the two became instantly inseparable with Zoe adopting the lamb as her own. Zoe immediately became very protective of the new lamb, and regularly licks and cleans her adopted son affectionately.
Animal behaviour expert Dr Susan Hazel believes that the similar spotty appearance between the two animals could be a factor behind their sudden bond. The lamb began following its new mother around the farm, and even sleeps in her kennel with her. It is hand-fed milk by the couple. John added: “We’re not quite sure what we should call it, whether to call it a ‘sheep-matian’ or a ‘Dal-dorper!’ “
