Friday Favourites – Why Devon is my Favourite County

Devon

Devon is the second largest county in the UK, and is home to us here at Bowerland Holiday Cottages and Devon Dogs. We love it here, and we’re sure you will too when you come to visit or take part in a class.

My family moved to Devon when I was 6 months old. Other than 4 years at university up north and 7 years living in in Somerset, I’ve spent most of my life here and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

For me, the main appeal is Dartmoor. At 954 km² in size it’s huge and offers stunning scenery no matter which area you’re travelling to. There are over 160 tors to explore and climb, as well as countless other hills, woods, rivers, streams and more.

Another reason to love Devon is the incredible variety of places to visit – from cities such as Exeter and Plymouth for those who crave busier places, to smaller villages and towns such as Okehampton or Totnes – each with their own unique history and feeling.

It’s a unique county in that it has 2 shorelines. As such, there are a great variety of coastline walks to walk along. There are so many good opportunities to take a walk with your dog – why not take a look at our Wednesday Walks page which has many Dartmoor walks on and see for yourself! Also check out our Dog Friendly Devon page.

What about you, why do you love Devon? I would love to hear from you. Post your comments below. Why don’t you share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon? Or try following us on Twitter?
