My 5 top tips:
- Build gradually. Don’t over-rep or ask your dog to hold a position too long. Keep a diary of your dog’s progress so you can easily gauge when to up the difficulty level. And difficulty doesn’t just mean more reps or how long they hold for, it could mean switching to a different surface, or changing the front or backend elevation.
- SLOW is key when your dog is doing any conditioning work!! I would recommend not to cue anything, lure with food.
- Know your dog. Start them at THEIR level. Start on the flat and then move to different/wobbly surfaces where applicable when your dog is ready to.
- Use a calm voice when encouraging your dog.
- Ensure your dog’s workout is balanced. i.e. Don’t do the same things day in day out!
