Tamu’s 121 Training by Jan Perryman
I travelled from Staines Upon Thames on 29th Apr, for a 4 night stay at Bowerland, in preparation for the Intensive Training Package –10 hours of 121 training. Prior to my visit, I received a 30 minute call from Michelle, so I was able to tell her about my struggles, with Tamu, my gorgeous, NBN, disobedient Irish Terrier.
Tamu is 26 months old. I’ve had him since he was a 9 week old puppy. He is a feisty, headstrong chap, and extremely hard work at times. My main reason for this visit to Bowerland, was to help with recall, as Tamu usually ignores me, which is so frustrating.
My training schedule was emailed to me in advance, which was great, as it enabled me to plan my ‘down time.’ during which I visited friends in Sidmouth and also went to Belstone and Clovelly.
We booked to stay in the annexe, which is perfect, and has a lovely secure cottage garden. I went with a friend, so I kindly let her have the king size bed, whilst I utilised the sofa bed. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and perfect for a short stay. It was a nice touch to find a welcome pack of homemade marmalade and biscuits, and treats and a tug-toy for the doggies to take home. There was also a folder with restaurant recommendations, and local supermarket, which was extremely helpful.
Shortly after my arrival, we had a 2-hour training session with Michelle. She is a lovely lady, with an endless supply of training knowledge. Michelle is very calm, and was able to get Tamu to listen and focus on her. I felt completely at ease, and relaxed.
Over the next 4 days, we progressed to lots of games and theory for me to understand. I gained lots of knowledge and it was a fun way to get Tamu focussed on me. My work with Tamu will be ongoing – it is definitely a work in progress!
I thoroughly recommend Bowerland and Devon Dogs
I will definitely make a return visit next year, and look forward to Tamu having another refresher with Michelle. We intend to book well in advance, as Michelle is extremely popular. 🙂

About the Author: I retired in 2017, having worked for a major airline, working shifts, so Tamu is a lucky boy to have me around 24/7. I’m constantly reinforcing the games, and I’m a member of the Training Academy.
