Stover Country Park

Stover Country Park is just 40 minutes from Bowerland and is beautiful on a sunny Devon day. The Mandarin Ducks are also very pleasant to watch. The park contains over 114 acres of woodland, heathland, grassland, lake and marsh and a substantial variety of wildlife. Definitely need to keep your four legged friends under control. map

This hidden gem is also close to Trago Mills, near Newton Abbott. So if you fancy a little retail therapy after a wonderful long walk then this is for you!

Whether you want a gentle jaunt or a 16 mile hike there is something for you here

You can stay in the country park and stroll round the lakes along the rivers and over the bridges, or you can do the circular train that takes you out and around the tranquil surrounding areas. It takes you along the old canal, which they are trying to revive at the moment with local volunteers.

Ted Hughes Poetry Trail

The Ted Hughes Poetry Trail has been created at Stover Country Park to celebrate his poetry and long-standing links with Devon. Visitors to Stover can read examples of Hughes’ finest poems relating to the natural world. The Park features sixteen specially-designed ‘poetry posts’, each displaying a poem by Ted Hughes on a theme relating to the natural world.
