The Adventures of RB – A New Arrival in the Family

RB loved where he lived, right opposite a park with lots of smells, lots of interesting dogs and even a few squirrels to chase. He loved his life. Callie, his owner, doted on him and was forever patting and cuddling him. He knew he was top dog in her life.

He put up with the cats, funny little things that they were. But they didn’t really bother him. They also knew he was top dog.

But one day all that changed. He had had his suspicions for some time. Callie was acting strange, fussing and tidying all the time. She was home all day as well which was most odd. He was used to lazy days on his own, sleeping and dreaming of all the adventures he was going to have. She had also put on a bit of weight, especially around the tummy area.

One day she went away and was gone for ages – it seemed like ages to him as he missed her special attention, it wasn’t the same without her.  And when she came back she seemed different.  She even smelt different.  Callie crept into the house and put her arms around him and muttered something about “You’ll always be my special boy, no matter what”.  Most odd.  And then, in behind her came the older ones carrying a tiny bundle in a straw basket.

“What’s this”? he thought.  Not another pesky cat?  It started to mew – it didn’t sound like a cat, he came closer and sniffed the air. “My – it smelt like a baby human”!  And then its tiny hand grabbed his nose.  R.B had met Lolly – life would never be the same again.
