Jazzer’s Story as told by Jill Robertson

Jazzer

Jazzer playing the Cone Game

Hello, my name is Jazzer and I am a Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla. I live with my humans Jilly and Dave and Auntie Poppy who is my dad’s sister. She’s quite good to play with sometimes but she’s a bit of a push over.

I thought I’d tell you about how bizarre these humans can be – I think you’ll know what I mean.  Jilly likes me to do things for my food. Auntie Poppy seems to get a sort of bowl thing and gets some of her kibbles in that. But me, well I have to do things if I want any food.

Well one day she sat on the floor – a very good sign I always think. She had a big cone, a yellow ring thing and a pot of food.  She chucked the yellow ring thing down so I looked at it and you know what?  Jilly shouted “YES!” and threw out a kibble. They’re a bit odd humans aren’t they? So I moved towards the yellow ring and she shouted out again and threw me another kibble. So I ate it and ran over to the ring. Yep that got me another. So I grabbed the ring and took it towards Jilly and got meself another kibble.

img_9530Oh yes this is so easy. All I have to do if I want food is to play this little game. So, I took the ring to her next time and she threw me another kibble and chucked the ring out again. So I took it back to her. She did try to make it a bit harder after that. Rather than take it from she stuck the cone nearer me so I dropped the ring and tried to bite the cone. Didn’t go down well so I picked up the ring again and got my kibble.  Next time I took it back to her she seemed to be trying to hook the cone under the ring and saying “YES!” (I love that word!) and chucking out a kibble. Then she stopped the game just as I was getting into it and I had to wait aaaaaagges till we could play again.

I knew things were looking up when she got the cone and ring out again and sat on the floor with that lovely little pot of food. So when she chucked the ring out I took it back and she was busy trying to hook it onto the cone so I did my best to help. After a couple of goes she just put the cone on the floor and you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to drop it on. At first I got kibbles for just chucking near but she got a bit picky when I managed to get it over the first time and now I have to get it right over every time. Sometimes it takes me several goes but if it goes on first time I get FIVE yes FIVE kibbles.  Oh yes it’s worth the effort.

Humans eh? I’ve no idea why my human wants me to put a ring on a cone. I’m sure she could do it herself with a bit of training but it’s good fun to spend a bit of time with her every now and then and it seems to make her in a good mood so I get some food.  Win win.
