Duke – the rescue dog that saved a baby’s life
In 2012, in Connecticut, USA the Brousseau family had all settled down for the night. But Duke, the rescue dog, was not happy. He was agitated and disturbed and would not settle down. 9 week old baby Harper was asleep in her cot, but unbeknown to her parents, she had stopped breathing.
Duke however had noticed. He rushed into her parents room and roused them from their sleep. He was shaking uncontrollably. Knowing that something must be terribly wrong, they immediately went into check on Harper. When they realised she had stopped breathing they called out the emergency medical team who came and resuscitated her. She was then taken into hospital for a more thorough check over.
The Brousseau family will be eternally grateful to Duke. Without his intervention they would have stayed asleep and not noticed anything was wrong until the next morning. They are so very pleased that he was the dog they rescued from the animal care centre.
Have you any stories to tell of dogs, such as Duke, who saved the life of baby Harper?
