Reading – a great way to spend a few hours!
I don’t know about you, but I find reading is a great way to relax and unwind. Even back as a child, I used to love to visit W. H. Smiths, which was probably the only book seller around at the time. The smell of the shop… the smell of the books, was intoxicating. Of course I visited the Public Library as well, and followed the Good Readers Circle. In fact I still have my badge and also my green leather shield that I was awarded. Although I can’t quite remember how many books I had to read and be tested on, to reach that accolade! Was it 50? Or perhaps a 100?
It is still the same with me now, although I must admit I haven’t visited a Public Library for many years. Mostly due to the fact that I never seem to have the time. It is easier to purchase books these days, rather than borrow them. I definitely have more money now than I did as a child, which also makes it easier. So for me, I normally purchase either online, or by picking up second hand books whenever I have the opportunity. You take what you can find. Although I find the biggest treat is to visit an actual book store, and preferably one of the independent ones.
Every time I visit a town, or city,. the first place I head for is the book store. Sometimes I have an idea of what I want to buy, but at other times I just browse until something catches my eye. Normally I end up with 3 or 4 books, and try to whittle them down. Certain books attract me, either by the cover, the author, or the title. I can often go for pleasure, just simply picking a book that looks easy to get into. Other times I want something to think about, something that I can learn from. And sometimes a combination of the two.
At the moment my favourite books are around creative writing, and therapeutic writing. I seem to have gathered quite a collection! I dip in and out of various books, normally having 3 or 4 on the go at any one time. Although I find it increasingly difficult to find good fiction books these days.
What about you, what type of books do you read? I would love to hear what you think about your favourite reading matter. Post your comments below. Why don’t you share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon? Or try following us on Twitter?
