Picnics on the Lawn
Don’t you just love the summer? The warm weather, the sunny days that seem to go on for ever. And of course, picnics on the lawn.
This is quite a new event for us here at Bowerlands. We probably started the routine a couple of years ago. Before that, it was picnics in the park as we didn’t have a lawn. But we have progressed! So far this year, we have picnicked on a weekly basis, sometimes even twice a week! For starters, the weather has been so very glorious – the best summer since we moved in here in September 2010. Up until now we have had a few odd days, but nothing to write home about.
That has all changed in 2018. From very early on in May, and right up through to July so far, the weather has been very kind to us. And we don’t seem to need much of an excuse to have a picnic! Just the fact of us all being here on an early evening, that’s enough reason for us. Out come the blankets, (we tend to have a couple kept handily in the porch ready for use). Next on the agenda is the food discussion, what shall we have to eat tonight? Most times we go for fish and chips from the local chippie. It is so very easy. We have discovered that they even do home deliveries if you speak to them nicely. Even better!
Eating implements, and sauces etc. are the next consideration. And then, finally – the most important one of all – the drinks. So, we started off in May selecting a nice bubbly, either Prosecco, or a sparkling wine of some description, or if we were feeling very flush, champagne even. We have now progressed onto Gin and Tonics. And of course, there are a lot of great new Gins, and delicious and different Tonics to choose from. Cider and beer for the ones that like a longer drink, and of course pomegranate and elderflower for the youngest.
That’s all we need for a splendid evening picnic on the lawn – perhaps just a dog or two, and of course the intrepid and infamous Ben the Bengal. What more can you have in life?
What about you, what is your favourite place to picnic? Or favourites, should I say? I would love to hear from you, and would appreciate your thoughts.
