We re-homed Arthur in late 2019. Arthur is a three old Border Terrier and whilst very handsome (albeit we are slightly biased) he is a rather complexed character. He was extremely hyper-vigilant, barking and lunging at anything and everything, regardless of whether it moved or not. We were desperate to help Arthur because we were struggling day to day and our relationship with him was far from thriving.
Through our research on how to be a better owner and understand Arthur’s struggles, Absolute Dogs popped up on an internet search and our story began. Ann quickly became consumed with the positivity and approach to the games-based training, especially during lockdown. The bowl was ditched, and her badge collection was started with Naughty but Nice. Slowly we started to see Arthur transform and his reaction to inanimate objects reduced so we could take him for a walk.
Our stay in the Annexe
I purchased the Intensive course at Devon Dogs for Ann’s birthday and stayed four nights in the Annexe in October 2020. I can honestly say, this is the best money I could have spent for both Ann and Arthur. Our accommodation was outstanding and exceptionally clean; you would never know that dogs had stayed in the property previously. The Annexe provided everything we needed, plus additional personal touches with fresh flowers, quality toiletries, homemade marmalade and biscuits, and not forgetting the doggie treats, which Arthur loved! The Annexe was perfect and has been both sympathetically and thoughtfully renovated.
121 Intensive Training
We had training with Michelle and Becky, both of whom were knowledgeable, positive, and created a healthy learning environment. We had been concerned that Arthur is reactive to other dogs but the management and movement of the dogs within classes, including our own, was so good that our concerns were completely removed and we were able to concentrate on our learning. We have started to see the changes in our training and Arthur’s behaviour is becoming the next version of himself already.
The location of Bowerland was fantastic, located on the Pegasus Trail it had beautiful runs for me literally from the doorstep. I used to run in the mornings before our training and after training we would drive to a beach. We were perfectly placed to explore Devon, Cornwall and Dartmoor National Park, so there is lots to do for anyone not taking part in dog training.
Overall, our training holiday at Bowerland has been simply wonderful. The whole environment and experience was amazing, uplifting and with such a positive and healthy vibe. We have come away feeling confident that we can enhance our use of all the training. We are in no doubt that we will return to this unique place. We even got to see Blink and Jasper!
