Stretch and Grow…
Stretch yourself – so important in all aspects of life. Both in a physical way, and perhaps more importantly, in an emotional and spiritual way. To start with, find something that interests you, perhaps something that you’ve always wanted to have a go at. After all, what have you got to lose?
To be honest, I am not the greatest keep-fit enthusiast. I think of exercising frequently, but that’s all I do. Just think about it. I think of exercise mainly as a way of keeping my weight down. I remember the days, not so long ago, when I could eat what I liked and still kept pencil-thin. But back in those days I always had plenty of exercise such as regular gym visits, daily long dog walks up steep hills etc. Funnily enough, living in a city meant I walked more.
Now I live in the country there doesn’t seem to be such easy access to walking. You have to get in your car to get anywhere to walk, which does sound odd, don’t you think? Consequently, nowadays I work more about my emotional and spiritual health rather than my physical health.
On an emotional and spiritual level, the most important aspect for me is to always be in the process of learning and developing. Stretching my mind, developing my skills, growing myself. For years this happened naturally through my work environment. Now I have retired from the corporate workplace and help to run our own family business. I miss many aspects of the corporate world, believe it or not, and especially the learning and development that came with the job. Therefore, for me, I need to find something to fill that gap, to stretch and grow.
Creative writing is going some ways to filling this gap for me. This is something that I am beginning to learn about. You too could choose something that inspires you. What about Art, Music, Gardening? There is an abundance of stimulating topics to think about, some more physical than others. And who knows where they can lead to? You never know, one day I might be promoting my own book, you may be exhibiting your own beautiful art, or playing your music in a public environment. Or even displaying your gardening and design skills at one of the famous garden shows across the country. All you need to do is to make a start, what have you got to lose?
I would love to hear what you think about my ideas, and anything else you have come up with. Tell me what you think by posting your comments below. Why don’t you Share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon or following us on Twitter?
