Stress, stress and yet more stress!

Have you ever found yourself in a stressful situation that seems to go on for ages? And afterwards, when the situation eventually gets resolved, what do you do with all that stress? Especially when the actual stressful time comes to an end and you don’t have to think about it any more?

The funny thing is, when you are in the throes of a stressful situation, be that a relationship breakdown, or an unhappy work atmosphere, ill health or bereavement, or even a fall out with your friends or neighbours, you just keep on going. The adrenalin is pumping, the fight keeps you on your toes and active. Of course you may snap and snarl, or weep and woe. But you keep on, keeping on.

When the stressful situation sorts itself out, or evaporates or gets resolved, as most tend to over time, what then? Too often we are left with the aftermath, the anti-climax, the post problem problems.

This is the time when you really do need to put you first. To take good care of yourself.  To think of yourself as an exotic little flower, and tenderly love and nurture yourself.  It will take awhile, it won’t happen overnight.  But it is so important to take this time to recuperate and recover. Treat it as you would any other illness, as of course stress is a type of illness in itself and does dreadful damage to your body over time.

Walks out in the woods, or by a beach. Sit by a log fire, curled up with a book.  Meet up with friends, and even a little retail therapy helps! There are so many ways in which you can care for yourself, just imagine that you are looking after your very best friend in the whole world, your bright twin. How would you do that? And put yourself in their shoes.
