Keeping on Track – Goals, Intentions & Resolutions
What are you like with keeping up with goals, with plans and with good intentions? If you are anything like me you start off really well, but can get easily distracted and lose focus. It is hard to keep on track, though. No matter how much you want to. Take for instance the habit of writing out New Year resolutions (something I always do).
I love writing up New Year resolutions. I feel a sense of excitement, of being able to imagine what I want to achieve, and how I want to spend the coming year. First of all, I get myself a lovely new shiny book, I write up my resolutions and feel very positive about them. Of course I am going to achieve these goals, it goes without saying! But what then do I do with the book? To start with I keep it in my sight, somewhere that I notice it, normally on a shelf, or set of drawers up in the bedroom.
Most years I tend to write up my resolutions with my very close friend, or sometimes even a member of the family. I like to bounce ideas around with them, it helps me and I hope it helps them too. I keep their resolutions in my book as well! Just so I can check with them on how they are getting on.
But all too soon my book (with my resolutions in) gets tidied away. I put it into a drawer, or cupboard. Before long the resolutions are just a dim and distant memory. Months pass by, life changes, and I lose track of what I had wanted to achieve.
Then one day I find the book again, hopefully it is still within the same year. I look through my resolutions and are relieved when I find that I have actually achieved some of them. But there are others that I have not even started on yet.
So, how do you keep on track, how do you stick to your plans, your resolutions? Do you have any ideas? I could certainly do with some help!
I hope you find these tips helpful. It would be good to hear what you think about my ideas, and anything else you have come up with. Tell me what you think by posting your comments below. Why don’t you Share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon or following us on Twitter?
