Playfulness – Improving the quality of life
Playfulness means different things to different people. Some people think it is a waste of time whilst others think it is FUN. It definitely makes you feel good, which can’t be bad. It is a known fact we stop worrying and thinking about things when we play. We are just “in the moment, in the flow…” It makes us lighten up and become more allowing in our natures.
Children play as a matter of course, they are in their natural state, it is what they do. But as adults we have moved away from the whole idea of play. We feel it is not productive, or that we will look foolish. But listen to these great sayings from some very wise people.
Albert Einstein said, “Play is the highest form of research.” Whilst Thomas Edison said, “I never did a day’s work in my life – it was all fun.” Wise words indeed.
So, what is stopping you? Think of all the things you used to like to do, the games you used to play, remember the ones that made you laugh.
Here are my top tips to get you started:
- Remember all the games and activities you enjoyed as a child and write them down
- Schedule in a dedicated time for play, at least twice a week for a minimum of 30 minutes each time
- The best way to play is outside in the fresh air, and to be physically active if you can
- Start small – invite a friend for a walk in the country perhaps
- Think simple – take a walk and quietly express appreciation for everything you observe in nature, then apply it to your life as you walk home.
But whatever you do and however you start, make it a part of your regular week, put time and effort into it. It is fun to meet up with others, and if you make a commitment you won’t want to let them down. Once you start, you will want to continue. You will feel more refreshed, more ready to tackle the problems and with a fresh mind. So, what’s stopping you?
