How you can fit more ME time into your busy life?
Life is all about a balance, trying to fit in what you need to do, and what you want to do. The solution isn’t to try and cram everything in, to try and do it all, though. On the contrary, the solution lies more in what you can stop doing, in order to give yourself more ME time!
If you’re like me, you find it hard to say no to other people, never agree to anything right away. Give yourself some breathing space to think it over. If someone is pushing you for an answer, say that you have to check your diary, check with your partner, anything to delay, even just by a couple of hours. Also, trust your gut reaction to the request. If your heart sinks then that is a good indication that you really shouldn’t do it.
You could always try and barter for some extra time. Some of your tasks, such as housework for instance, could easily be done by someone else. It doesn’t have to be all done by you. You could negotiate so that members of the family do some of ‘your’ chores, and perhaps you could lighten their load by swapping something over. Particularly on a day that is causing you difficulty. Or even better still, if your budget stretches to it, employ someone else to help with the more mundane tasks such as cleaning, ironing etc. What about doing your shopping online, so much easier than all the hassle of driving to the supermarket.
When you do have to knuckle under and get a load of work done, try to ‘batch’ it all together. So, spend a good hour or so catching up on all your emails. Get a list of all the phone calls you need to make, and do them, one after the other. Turn your phone off and get your head down. You will be surprised at how much you can achieve if you work in a more focused manner.
Think about what you could change in your life if you had even 30 minutes extra a day, just for you?
