How to Get Yourself in the Right Headspace

We live in such a busy and frenetic world these days that it is hard to slow down, to stop and take time out to think.  Even just to consider what it is we are hurtling towards.  How do you take time out to think, to get your head straight?  How do you make sensible and well thought out plans for the future? What do you do to balance your life?

I believe that in order to lead a more balanced life with all of the demands on our time and energy, it is crucial to have some thinking time. Just to sit, and watch the world go by. Or perhaps to stop and look at the views, whatever or wherever they may be. Or to sit beneath a sunny sky, or a moonlit night. To feel the ground beneath your feet; to smell the flowers, and to hear the sound of the breeze and the tunes of birdsong.  All of these sensations help to make us more aware of ourselves and the space we live in.

headspaceBut do we remember to take this time?  If you are anything like me, you have great intentions to take this precious time, but the humdrum of everyday life gets in the way.  So, here are my ideas on how to get you started:

  • Plan in advance, pop it into your online calendar, or diary – even if you can only manage 15 minutes.
  • Select your spot.  This could be in your own home or garden, or somewhere that is easy for you to access and that you feel comfortable in.
  • Be Self-Ish about it and make it happen – make this a priority.
  • Make sure you do it – no procrastinations, no martyrdom – just do it.

Furthermore, this space, this time, this opportunity is for you. It is crucial for your well being. But most of all, by taking this time to get yourself in the right headspace, it helps you and everyone else that comes into close contact with you.

I would love to hear what you think about my ideas, and anything else you have come up with. Tell me what you think by posting your comments below. Why don’t you Share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon or following us on Twitter?
