Happy New Year – Let’s all look forward to 2017
The New Year is here at last, we have survived 2016 and are looking forward to a grand new year in 2017. New beginnings, new plans, new ideas. Now is an ideal time to plan and prepare. I think that will be my motto for the year – Plan and Prepare!
So, how do you plan and prepare? The first thing I do is to set out my store. To be clear about my goals, my priorities, and of course, any restrictions or pitfalls that spring to mind. Once I have a set of information to work with, my foundations, then I can start to build a picture.
It is really important to visualise how you see the year panning out; to visualise how you see yourself in 12 months time. Where do you want to be, and what do you want to have achieved.
Sometimes it is important to think about what you don’t want to happen, or to continue to happen rather than new ideas or new thoughts. Sometimes it is about changing patterns of behaviour, and becoming free from the restrictions that you find yourself in. However, it is always hard when there are others to consider, and let’s be honest, our lives are always surrounded by other people. Both close family and friends, and people we come across in our daily lives. We don’t always have control over these situations. But we can change how we act, or re-act.
Once we have decided on our plans, we need to consciously make a commitment to ourselves to make sure we follow through. One way of doing this is to write them down. Either in a daily journal, in a diary or calendar, or somewhere where we can see what we have written on a regular basis.
But whatever you do, make a start, at least write a list, put something into bullet points, don’t lose your thoughts. Even if now is not the time for you to commit to them, just make sure you record them.
I hope you find these ideas helpful, I would be really interested to hear what you do at the start of the New Year.
