2017 & All It Brings
So, the new year has started, with all its promise of a fresh start, a new slate, a bright beginning. No doubt many of you will have written up some thoughts and ideas of things you want to achieve in 2017. You have got some idea on what you are looking forward to, and even perhaps where you see yourself this time next year. It is great if you have got to this stage. I am nearly there, I have had the ideas, the thoughts, and written down odd notes. What I need to do now is to formalise it, to actually put it into a clear timescale, and make sure it is visible and not forgotten, put away in a drawer somewhere.
But sometimes obstacles get in the way. No matter how energised we feel, and how optimistic we are, life has a way of throwing curved balls. So, with all the best will in the world, you are thrown back into indecision, anxiety – even stress. It is always more difficult when it is the action of others as this tends to have a great influence on how you feel. We cannot control other people, they will always do what they want, when they want.
One of the hardest obstacles to overcome is the feeling of unfairness, of feeling that some actions that seem to be against you and that you feel are unjust. Whilst you believe you act in an honest and straightforward manner, others don’t always follow this principle. People look at situations mostly from their own perspective, their own point of view. They don’t want to look at it from your view, they want to justify what they feel, and how they act.
What do you do in these circumstances? Do you feel you go under with the pressure, with the feelings of being in conflict? Or do you rise to the occasion? Do you want to fight back, to stand your ground, to fight your corner? Or do you keep yourself grounded, keep to your plans and not let yourself be affected by someone else’s agenda? It is a hard one, and one that I struggle with.
My advice to myself is to keep on my own path, keep to my own plans and to try not to be pushed off course by the actions of anyone else.
I would be interested in how you react, what you do in a similar circumstance, and how you manage to stick to your 2017 New Year’s Resolutions. Let me know.
