Lydford Gorge opens for Spring /Summer
During the Winter months the Gorge is mostly closed to the public for safety reasons. The maintenance of the paths and steps is a big job when it is nearly 4 miles long!
On Saturday 2nd March Lydford Gorge is open to the public
Experience some extraordinary natural features including the roaring Devils Cauldron, and Tunnel Falls. Whitelady Waterfall is nearly 30 metres high and when the river is flowing you can see the awesome power of the water in action.
Tunnel Falls was created for Victorian Tourists, the river swirls in whirlpools as it cascades down this section of the gorge. The Devil’s Cauldron, you will hear the roar before you can see it! Dripping rock faces covered with moss and ferns are all around you as you weave your way onto the suspended platform over the water and see the amazing pothole, it looks like it is boiling as the tremendous force of the water falls onto rock.
At this beautiful National Trust site you will find plenty to do for young and older alike, play areas, the original house, the 4 mile Gorge walk and the wonderful cafe serving hot and cold food and drinks all day. Dogs on leads are welcome and water bowls are provided all over the site.
