Thursday Paws for Thought – Know your Dog!
Do you know what your dog was bred for? Did you know that each and every breed has been bred for a purpose? Is your dog a herding breed, a guarding breed, or were they bred to simply snuggle on a lap?
Geek out and get researching! Why is this important? Breed traits and characteristics have already been pre-determined. For example, if your dog is a herding breed it’ll be an innate part of their nature, they’ll have a natural desire to herd; it’s not something that can be turned off.
Knowing what their ‘job’ is will unlock lots of answers and will explain why your dog may start displaying certain behaviours.
Lots of behaviour challenges manifest themselves due to the fact that the dog’s needs aren’t being met. Being your dog’s geek and knowing what makes them tick will mean you will be able to take a proactive approach.
