Secrets to a Home Sweet Home by Carole Langman

This is a great time of year to be thinking about putting your house in order!  The great book — The Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo — has really opened my eyes. I hope I’ve managed to transfer some of its salient points over to you. She also has a series on Netflix, Tidying up with Marie Kondo that you might want to catch.

Getting Back to Basics

Start by selecting a specific place for everything you own, which is the true starting point for keeping your house in order. Don’t just leave things on shelves, or in drawers, make sure they all have a place. Before you know it, anything left out will multiply and other items tend to find their way to join them. Just like a magnet, your one item attracts other items in no time. And tidy by category, not by room, i.e. books, clothes, jewellery, communal items, etc.

Discard is Key

You need to be clear and thorough about what you are discarding. You are then left with the items that really matter to you… the ones that bring joy to your life.  Letting go of things give you a certain glow, believe it or not! Even more so than adding things. You will feel as if a huge weight has been lifted from your shoulders. You will discover the real you, and be able for focus on what you want to do in life. The things that really matter to you.

Tidying dramatically changes your life and gives you a confidence in yourself, as well as making you feel better.

By taking these steps and discarding the things that aren’t really important to you, will be representative of how your make choices in every aspect of your life. And it really does jump out at you – there is no escaping the reality that is so very plain to see.  It will enable you to take stock on your life.  You will be left with a very clear vision of what you want.

Things that hold you back

  • Attachment to the past (holding onto memories, and things of sentimental value)
  • Fear of the future (not wanting to be wasteful, or item may be of use some time in the future, also a sense of stability)
  • Or a combination of both the above

By following the main points above, I do feel like a changed person, and I hope you can see the changes in yourself too!  I would love to hear how you are getting on? You can also read more of my Monday Motivation blogs HERE.
