Haldon Forest Park by Sophie Williams
Whilst here at Bowerland it would be a shame to miss this gem. Haldon Forest is easy to find, within an easy driving distance of Bowerland and absolutely perfect for dog walking, scenery and lots of other activities! Haldon is very clearly signposted off the A38 located near Exeter Racecourse.
At Haldon there are a plethora of things to do: Go Ape in the trees, Go Segway on the trails, Cycle hire with trails to ride, plenty of walking trails; The Ridge Cafe with amazing food and well equipped toilets and shower facilities. There are also plenty of handy dog waste bins placed around the trails.
The trails range from 1.5 miles to 3 miles and vary from gentle to moderate. You can see rare butterflies, some amazing scenery and beautiful trees. On The Raptor trail there is a bird of Prey view point where there are picnic tables ideal for a pit stop if needed.
The surfaces are all very well looked after and are very wide and easy accessible. The Discovery trail is suitable for wheelchairs also.
The cycle trails crosses the walking trails in places so just be careful of that, also there are Horse riding trails around the area, so also keep an ear out for our four legged friends so that your dog doesn’t get squashed!
It is truly magical being in the middle of the forest and seeing the Zip wires come over your head with children laughing out loud. Adults also enjoy the Go Ape but are a little more reserved (the ones I saw were anyway).
The Go Segway is wonderful fun for adults and children alike but does sort of take away from a good walk around the forest with the dog which is why I went, and I have to say it is really enjoyable day out in amazing surroundings and to finish the trip off please visit The Ridge Cafe, the service is wonderful as is ALL of the food!
But you have to try their cakes they are to die for. Read more of our Wednesday Walks HERE.
