What is Your Favourite Hobby?
Taking up new hobbies can play an important role in keeping us stimulated and energetic, and particularly during the dull and dismal winter months. For some people this time of year often brings feelings of lethargy, anxiety and depression.
So, why don’t you change your focus, create quick wins and think of something that you can do fairly easily and quickly that will give you joy? Perhaps there is something that you have always wanted to do but never got round to doing? Or never had the courage to give it a go? Now is the time to make time.
Hobbies can include a number of different activities from knitting or reading, right through to scuba diving and everything in between.
I don’t know about you but I have started numerous different hobbies over the years. There was a time when I used to knit, both with knitting needles and also with a knitting machine. I have joined a load of different clubs and organisations with regard to exercising; from yoga to circuit training. I have taken part in voluntary work, learnt to swim, had meditation classes and many more too numerous to mention.
Hobbies do take up time though, and time is very precious. But it is also important to do things that you enjoy. To meet other people in different environments, and at different stages in their lives. You can take up a hobby on your own, or with others from your family or friends. Your hobby can be a solitary enterprise, or a joint venture. It can be whatever you want, whatever takes your fancy at this particular time of your life.
So, for the moment I will continue to read – something I have really enjoyed all of my life. My current fascination is with auto-biographies. I will continue with creative writing, and with gardening too. And I will look forward to thinking about future hobbies, such as painting, playing more music and travelling. What about you?
