desertDesert Island Discs or what about Desert Island Books?

Friday Favourites – for the next few weeks I am going to focus on moments that take us away from our normal life. Moments that take us out of ourselves, and away from our usual day to day routines.  This could cover a whole range of different activities, but I would like to start off by focusing on music and reading.

So, let’s start with music, what music inspires you?  When you hear a piece of music on the radio, (or other device), where does it take you? How do you feel?  What emotions go through your body?  If you are anything like me, you don’t ever seem to have enough time to stop and listen. Or to remember where you were, or what you were doing, at that particular time. When that track was popular, and your life was perhaps different than it was now.

What I’d like to do personally, is to listen to more music. But where to start? How do you squeeze yet another thing into your day?  Even though it is as enjoyable as listening to music certainly is!  Well, I guess the best place to start is by putting a date into your diary.  Making sure you give yourself time.  Set aside perhaps half an hour, or longer if you can manage it.  But at least half an hour.  You will need that just to get yourself set up and organised.

Next thing to do is to select where you are going to get your music from. Could you simply just turn on the radio?  To take pot luck as to what songs and tracks come up? Or perhaps you could be more organised and get out your CDs, and your music player and set aside the albums that jump out at you.

But for me, I am going to listen to what Spotify has to offer. Spotify is something I toy with from time to time.  But I have never quite got the hang of putting together my playlists.  And I can never quite remember the tracks that were great, that I loved.  I do need a bit of a nudge, and sometimes the radio is good for that.  But what about just jotting down the tracks, the artists, when you remember them?  That way you can search for them on Spotify when you have a moment.

So, my plan is sorted.  I know what I’m doing.  For this week I am going to get myself a new playlist together, and then I am going to write about some of the tracks that matter to me, and why they matter.

What about you, what is your favourite music, what memories do you get from a particular track? I would love to hear from you. Post your comments below. Why don’t you share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon? Or try following us on Twitter?
