Motown Classics – I just love them! This iconic and special era of music produced some memorable songs that have lasted throughout the generations. There are some really great artists and tracks that recorded on the Motown label, back in the time of the 60s in particular. The choices are vast – there are so many of them to choose from, I don’t really know where to start! If you search you will find that there are numerous playlists around, and I chose one from YouTube.
The first track to play was Jimmy Mack. This was recorded by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas who were an all black, all female, American vocal group who found fame in the 1960s with a string of hit singles on Motown’s Gordy label. Jimmy Mack is a great singalong song, with a very happy sound and is very upbeat! It just takes you right back to those days, were it seemed that life was so much simpler. Music was more straightforward. Songs were easy to follow, easy to sing along with, and absolutely great to dance to.
Other tracks I loved by Martha and the Vandellas were Dancing in the Street, probably my most favourite one of theirs. This was another great dance track, in the days of the youth clubs, and if you were a little bit older, the discos or night clubs. Nowhere to run was another favourite. You just can’t help yourself singing along, foot tapping, and if you happened to be anywhere near a dance floor, you can bet your life you would be up on it, dancing away!
Now I have found some really great Motown playlists, I am like a kid in a sweet shop! I don’t know where to start next, the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Isley Brothers, so many to choose from!
What about you, what is your favourite music, what memories do you get from a particular track? I would love to hear from you. Post your comments below. Why don’t you share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon? Or try following us on Twitter?
