Desert Island Discs

Well, I have made a start!  I have prepared the way for future desert island discs!  I have set up my iPad to listen to Spotify, and I have even bought some great new headphones. The only thing I haven’t done is to set aside regular time to actually listen to the music. But that is me all over. Great with the structure and planning, not so hot on the content.

However, yesterday, after getting it all set up, I did manage a couple of tracks from my May 2017 Spotify playlist.  Well, I actually managed to listen to 2 tracks!  I chose to take pot luck, and went onto Shuffle play.  The first track that I heard on my new headphones was Bob Dylan, Girl from the North Country.  I do like this track, and it would have been lovely to hear it all the way through, but nothing actually came to mind this time. So, with not a lot of time on my hands, I moved onto the next track.

Avalon by Roxy Music. This felt good. I did love Roxy Music, there was something about Bryan Ferry that was mesmerising. His voice, so silky and seductive, and his looks – which matched! Feelings of warmth flooded over me. Summer days, feeling chilled out, and very relaxed. No problems, no worries. Life was a ball.

I remember this track from the early 80s. It was romantic, seductive, and brought back feelings of being in love – being happy. Those times, on reflection, seemed simpler.  I was in my 20s, my late 20s. We had purchased our first house. I was pregnant with our first child. Very happy days.

Avalon also has another memory for me. When our first child was born, back in the days before you knew what sex your baby was, I believed the baby to be a boy. Imagine our surprise when out popped a girl!  I had prepared everything for a boy, even the names – (Luke or Alexander). It took me 6 weeks to find just the right name for my girl child. And on the long list of potential names, a name that was bandied around by my other half, was Avalon.

Well, I am glad I didn’t choose that name. Although I must admit, it would have been different. And in those days we did like to be different. But the name I chose was best. But I still fondly remember Avalon by Roxy Music.

What about you, what is your favourite music, what memories do you get from a particular track? I would love to hear from you. Post your comments below. Why don’t you share this with your friends and family by clicking the Facebook icon? Or try following us on Twitter?
