Favourite Ways to Meditate
There are so many benefits to be found from meditation. Last week we talked about the many health benefits, one of the main ones being relaxation. This week we are going to explore different ways in which we can choose to meditate.
Some people prefer to meditate without any outside stimulus. Many people use their breath, or a body scan, a set of words, or mantra repetitions. Some people focus on an object, such as a burning candle and others on a guided imagery.
I love the meditation apps you can get. These provide me with a way to regularise my meditation, and they are so easy to use. You can have the app on your phone, your tablet, or your pc. There are two strong favourite apps in my book. These are:
- Calm is a wonderful app that uplifts and energises me. There is a daily meditation that I try to do each morning. If I don’t manage it, I feel the loss throughout the day and make up for it by going for it in the evening, although I must admit, I do prefer the morning time best as it sets things up for the day. I also love the sleep stories on Calm, for those times in the middle of the night when you just can’t get back to sleep. And there is so much else to choose from with this little app.
- Headspace is another favourite. This is the first meditation app that I ever tried and I make sure I keep my subscription going. The narrator is always the same person, which can feel very reassuring. Just like Calm, Headspace also offers you a daily meditation and you can choose how long you want to meditate for.
You can try these two apps before you purchase them, and also there are a number of free apps around. Why don’t you try one of these, a very comprehensive free app called Insight Timer. This app offers a huge variety of speakers, and of content, to choose from. Take a look yourself as I am sure there will be something to suit your style.
What about you, have you discovered meditation yet? And if so, what is your preferred method? It would be good to hear what you think about what I like.
