Favourite things to do – browsing around the shops on a Saturday afternoon with a good friend

I don’t know about you but one of my most favourite things to do in the whole world is really quite a simple thing.  I love to have a couple of hours spare to wander around the shops with a close friend. To be able to mosey along, to stop and have some lunch, to look at what’s new in the shops. And of course to chat and while away the afternoon, that is probably the most important part of it!  If I am lucky, I can even manage to squeeze in time for a final cuppa before saying our goodbyes.

Over the winter months I have been fortunate to have had the time and opportunity to be let loose in, and around, the shops in Plymouth City Centre. Most times I visit I meet up with my very good friend Sandy, and enjoy an afternoon of pure unadulterated female company. Perhaps it is not just women that enjoy looking around the shops? Some men may also enjoy doing the same things, but for me, I prefer to share these precious afternoons with a girl friend.

And this is one of the things I really miss now that we have moved out of Plymouth and live in a very rural community on the edges of Dartmoor. I miss the lack of shops and also the lack of friends. Perhaps I am a city girl after all, even though I have always yearned to live in the country. One of the reasons that I have been able to have these precious afternoons over the recent winter months is because of football. Plymouth Argyle have their home matches every couple of weeks, and if it fits in with the general plan, we tend to jump in the car and travel down.  That means we get to visit Plymouth, stay overnight in most cases, and I get the afternoon off to do what I want!!

I always look forward to it. There are a couple of things I tend to jot down, items I want to look at, things to purchase, but most of the time I tend to go with the flow. Sandy and I meet up at 1.00 pm, have a bite to eat and an initial catch up chat, and then off around the shops. The day flies by and before I know it, it is time to say our goodbyes till next time.

How I love that feeling of being laden down with shopping bags, that you know contain some new and exciting purchases to explore later, and a general feeling of tiredness.  All walked out, all shopped out, and all talked out!!

What about you, what are your favourite things to do?It would be good to hear what you think about what I like. Tell me what you think by posting your comments below.
