Favourite things to do around Bowerland

Those of you who have come (or are thinking about coming) to stay with us at Bowerland will know all about the incredible dog training packages we offer. During your time at Bowerland, we know you’ll love relaxing in our holiday cottages, but if you’re looking to get out and about in those hours between your training sessions you might be wondering what else you can get up to. Here are a few of our favourite things to do in the local area:

  • Pay a visit to the nearby town of Okehampton. One of my favourite activities is to go to a coffee house called ‘Toast’ for a cappuccino and piece of chocolate cake! Although this is recommended, you’ll also find a good variety of other shops and cafés. Okehampton also has three large supermarkets to pick up anything you need during your stay.
  • Head to the Pannier Market in Tavistock, something I try and do as regularly as I can. This traditional market is located indoors meaning it’s still suitable even if the weather is bad! If you’re looking to go shopping you could even head down to Plymouth for a day out.
  • Being located right on Dartmoor there are countless opportunities in the local area for dog-friendly walks. I love starting a walk from Princetown right in the centre of the moor, but we’ve put together a few other suggestions such as Tavy Cleave & Hare Tor or a circular walk near Meldon, which is nearby.
  • Visit the Fox and Hounds pub. With a great local atmosphere, delicious food (I recommend their pies!) and fantastic views, this is a venue we recommend. Please see www.foxandhoundshotel.com for more information.

Of course this is only a selection of some of our favourite things to do – if you’ve come to stay with us before I’m sure you’ll have your own favourites!
