Essential Oils – What’s your view?
I recently attended the 2018 Vegan Festival in Plymouth, and at that festival came across a stall that promoted Essential Oils. Of course I stopped and had a look, and even a smell or two. The oils that were being promoted were Essential Oils made by DoTERRA and were being promoted as therapeutic, a natural health solution.
Of course I signed up for the online course (£10) and was given a 5 ml bottle of Wild Orange to take home with me. Within a week or so I was sent 7 tiny samples of some of the oils that were being promoted on the online course. The date of the course loomed, but unfortunately I was unable to attend, I was later was sent a YouTube link to watch it. Even though I still have my doubts about this particular brand, and product, it did spark my interest.
Essential Oils are primarily a natural compound found in plants and roots, leaves, flower, seeds and rind. DoTERRA state that their oils are up to 50 times more powerful than dried herbs as they make their oils from the rind, which is the immune system of the plant.
There are many ways in which you can experience Essential Oils, mainly by these 3 methods:
- Digest – take in water, or gargle
- Aromatic – breathe in, use in a diffuser, put in a spray bottle as a room freshener, etc
- Topical – apply to the skin as a massage, add to bathwater, hair and skin products, or use as First Aid and apply directly to a problem
Many say that Essential Oils can literally change your life, in ways such as:
- Wake you up
- Help creativity
- Calm you down
- Cleanse and purify
- Ensure fragrant smells around the house
- Create a specific mood
So, where to start? There are so many choices. I suggest you start by looking at what smells attract you. Then perhaps look at some pre-blended oils for their therapeutic properties. One of the first oils that attracted me was Geranium. I love the fragrance, it creates a sense of luxury and a feeling of being pampered. It also helps to alleviate depression. As well as balance adrenalin through the bodily system. Others to try are Rosemary, for clarity and energy. Clary Sage and Jasmine as an antidepressant and as a sedative. Lemongrass to help life the spirits. And finally Ylang Ylang to calm the nerves and take away frustration.
I would love to hear what you think about Essential Oils, which ones you have tried and any you recommend. I will be experimenting over the next few weeks, and will give feedback on my thoughts.
