Creative Ways to Overcome Fear

It is human nature to avoid emotions that scare us, and quite often the emotion of fear can turn into anxiety.  That in turn can give us a reason to wrap ourselves up in a cocoon in order to stay safe and protect ourselves. But in doing that you may miss out on life, especially if you are constantly saying no to any form of people or situations that cause stress or anxiety. Don’t let fear of the future hold you back from experiencing life to the full, instead focus on ways to overcome any fears you may have.

Don’t let fear of the future hold you back

Fear can reach a point when you are so risk averse you’re afraid to step out of your door in the morning.  Afraid to encounter any new situations or experiences. When fear is taken to the extreme it can become an issue, a bi problem.

Our thoughts create our emotions

So if we continually focus our energy on things that don’t support us, rather than looking towards things that do support us, it’s likely that we’ll be even more aware of feeling fearful.  In fact, you could say, we’re more likely to be inviting the fear, inviting the problems to happen. Do you think that if you believe in something hard enough, it will miraculously happen? Remind yourself about the law of attraction, the belief that we attract into our lives whatever we focus on. That can work in a negative way as well as a positive way.

Try not to live in a black and white world, instead think about all the variations in between. Think about life more in glorious technicolor terms and imagine a rainbow of emotions instead.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • What is working well right now for you in general?
  • What makes life easier for you?
  • What do you admire in yourself and others dear to you?

Taking the answers to the above questions, now prepare the STEPS to help your live your life to the maximum:

  1. Visualise what it is you want out of life
  2. Make a plan, write it down, and stick to it
  3. Create a routine that reminds you to keep focusing on the positives of your plan

Above all, don’t compare your life to others, you are unique in yourself. You are not like anyone else. And remind yourself that it is also important to acknowledge your fears and concerns. Don’t push them aside, but speak them out, give voice to them.  It’s ok to be scared, but not to dwell on your fear.

“Nothing good ever comes from worrying or sitting there feeling sorry for yourself. Keep positive and keep pushing on and things will turn good.” — Conor McGregor

Remember what life is all about, and appreciate the small everyday things. Be thankful for the joys in your life, the people you love and are close to and the things you enjoy doing. And most of all, give thanks to this wonderful world we all share in together, human or animal.
