Clear your Clutter – Do it Properly – Do it Once!

Many people have an urge to clean and tidy when under stress and pressure. In some ways it can be seen as an avoidance tactic, a way of doing something other than the task in hand. But what it is really all about is getting your life in order. By decluttering the space you live in, you are cleaning out your psychological space as well, so that your life is ready and waiting to be put into order.

You could ask yourself the question – the room you are concentrating on, the desk, or even the house itself – none of these areas get messy on their own.  It is your mess and perhaps you need to find out what is the real reason these spaces get so messy?  Mess on the outside can often deflect more than a physical problem. And can draw your attention away from what your real problem is. Ask yourself the question, do you feel relaxed in a clean and tidy space?  If not, why not? Perhaps you could dig deeper to find out the anxieties that lay below the surface.

But do it quickly – don’t procrastinate. As soon as you have made your decision to clear your clutter, get on with it. Aim to do it properly, aim to do it once only. Ignore the advice that tells you to do a little bit every day. Don’t try to do one room at a time. That isn’t the most helpful way to achieve the best results. It doesn’t work, it is not immediate enough. You need to change your behaviour and your thinking patterns in one fell swoop.

By putting your house in order you can start to look at the issues that are really important in your life. And what is most crucial, is that you get to achieve the type of lifestyle and happiness that is most important for you.
