Best Birthday Present Ever by Diane Beech
When my husband asked me what I wanted for my ‘special’ birthday (50th…shhh!), I immediately asked for the Intensive Training Package and a Monday to Friday stay in the Annexe. After booking, I noticed that there was a NBN workshop on the Sunday before. So I treated myself to that too – even though it meant an extra couple of nights in a Travelodge.
The Annexe’s enclosed garden was perfect ?
My 14 year old daughter chose to come with me and Charlie (my dog), and we had an uneventful 6 hour drive down from Manchester. On arrival my daughter was delighted with the free WiFi! I was delighted with the Annexe! It was bright, clean and welcoming with some lovely treats for us and Charlie too.
The enclosed garden was perfect and it was wonderful to relax knowing I could safely let Charlie out without worrying he might disappear. Charlie is my Naughty But Nice Cavachon who struggles with optimism and often reacts by barking and sometimes lunging at other dogs.
Our Amazing Trainer ?
Our amazing trainer was Michelle, she was really kind and helpful and explained things very clearly. I’m actually quite a shy person who struggles to talk to people I don’t know and initially I felt a bit awkward, but Michelle was easy to talk to and helped me to relax and enjoy the sessions.
Intensive Training Package – 10 hours of jam-packed 121 Sessions ?
The 10 hours of 121 sessions were jam packed and sped past so quickly, I’m definitely working on hubby for another visit! I particularly enjoyed one session where Michelle took us for a walk on the moorland with some other dogs. We worked on water confidence and being confident around other dogs. Charlie did amazingly well – he was like a different dog!
Sightseeing in between Training ?
In between training sessions we visited some lovely dog-friendly places: Canonteign Falls, Widecombe Bay, Babbacombe Model Village, Okehampton Castle, to name just a few. We also had some awesome meals at the local dog-friendly pubs. (BEWARE – large portions appear to be the norm, so pack stretchy jeans).
Can’t wait to return! ?

About the Author: My name is Diane Beech. I live in Greater Manchester with my husband, 2 of my daughters and my 4 year old Cavachon, Charlie, who was bred on a puppy farm. I have struggled with Charlie’s lack of confidence from the beginning, but with the help of the 1-1s at Bowerland I am convinced we can overcome this and put all the learning into practice in real life situations.
