Arthur’s Return & 121 Transformation Package
We have had Arthur for about 18 months, he is a re-homer and a four-year-old Border Terrier. He is adorably gorgeous but struggles with other dogs and often does not listen during times of excitement. At times he has brought us to tears. We first came to Devon Dogs in 2020 and because we loved and learnt so much, we decided to come back again for a week in June 2021. We booked a 121 Transformation Package and chose to stay again in the Annexe because it had all the amenities and was perfect for us. Plus, I was looking forward to having dinner and drinks in the beautiful sun trap of a garden in the evenings.
We had an amazing time
As our week approached there was some trepidation whether our week would be the same as last year and would we enjoy it as much? The answer is simple, no it was not the same and we had an amazing time. We learnt so much more than we thought we would and now we want to go back for a third time. We had our first session booked for the Monday afternoon we arrived. We had planned everything, getting there a little early to set up on the car park, finding a quiet spot to park and setting Arthur up for success. Pulling up on to the carpark to find it jam-packed full of agility dogs and their trainers was not part of our plan! My first words are “well this is going to be a stressful week…”
Aura of Positivity
Almost immediately we see Lauren walking towards us and everything is fine – she knew we were returning, that we were staying in the Annexe and that Arthur had his struggles and was training with Becky. Not wanting us or Arthur to fail, she had ensured the Annexe was ready early and arranged for Becky to meet us there in the garden – perfect! If first impressions count, our welcome was certainly exceptional and the high level of organisation and care towards clients and dog was obvious – our own stress buckets emptied quickly. The incredible aura and positivity around Bowerland, Lauren and the team is tangible.
Cosy Cottage Accommodation
The Annexe was again exceptionally clean with no indication that other dogs had been there. Well done housekeeping, you are amazing! All the little goodies were there – dog treats, poo bags, towels, marmalade and biscuits (my favourite).
Arthur’s 121 Transformation Package
Becky was our primary trainer and was truly awesome! Her positivity mirrored that of everyone we met. As with any Naughty But Nice dog owner, we sometimes don’t recognise the small wins. Becky helped us a great deal with recognising these. She is clearly very experienced and provided us with a perfect balance of theory and practical sessions, which were well thought out, planned and flexible. We really enjoyed the offsite training as it brought us elements of real-life distractions to our training. She also used her own dogs in demonstrations, and we found this invaluable to our learning. I think it is fair to say, we had a light bulb moment when we realised that it was us being trained how to train our dog! Boy did we learn!
Bowerland and Devon Dogs is a remarkable place!
As we left Friday morning Arthur appeared excited to be going training and disappointed that we were going home. I am sure we will return once we have grown what we have learnt during our training holiday. Our week has been an incredible experience and we can already see changes in both Arthur and ourselves. We know that our journey will sometimes be difficult, but we have strategies to help, and we do not have to do it alone. Bowerland and Devon Dogs is a remarkable place and somewhere I would recommend everyone experience at least once with their dog. We travel from Kent and will certainly be coming back. Thank you for a fabulous week, from Arthur, Ann and Nicki.
