The Art of Relaxing
How do you Relax?
I struggle with relaxing on a number of levels. First of all I find it incredibly difficult to actually relax my body, let alone my mind. My shoulders seem to be constantly hunched up, the osteopath evens remarks on how, after a 30 minute session, I am still incredibly tense? This is something I really struggle with. I need to be able to help my body to relax, and I don’t even know where to start with that one.
The next hurdle for me is finding the time to relax. And then finally, to give myself permission! If I stop to think about it, across all my 3 major stumbling blocks there is one great big challenge facing me – and that is finding the right balance wherever possible.
For me it’s really is all about balance. The art of balancing each aspect of my life – working time, life in general, family commitments and hobbies (time off). I believe this is something that most of us struggle with. For example, I spend far too much time on the computer, and always feel that I should be doing things, achieving outcomes, finishing tasks. One question I would ask you is whether you have come across anyone in your circle who feels like they have a perfect balance? Across every aspect of their lives? If so, find out from them what their secrets are. What method do they use. What are the principles they follow. I have yet to find anyone.
My plan for this coming week is to slow down, to take my time and enjoy the smaller things in life and not to focus only on the biggies. Perhaps we can all try to give ourselves permission to stop pushing so hard, and give ourselves a break. Next week I will let you know how I have got on, and will share with you my top tips for relaxing!
