Sometimes when I’m feeling low, I forget that it’s only a passing phase. To turn this around, I consciously stop these thoughts, and work towards something more positive… like gratitude.
Keep a Gratitude Journal
One really helpful idea I have found is to write a daily Gratitude Journal. This is something that focusses my mind, and stops the downward spiral of feeling sorry for myself. Gratitude is a fantastic antidote for worry!
- Buy yourself an attractive notebook to use as your journal – there are lots of choice on the market
- At the end of the day, get into the habit of writing down just one thing that you felt grateful for during that day
- If you find it difficult to remember or write down, take a photo of anything that sparks your interest during that day.
- Share your grateful thoughts with your family, make sure you talk about it to each other.
Attitude of Gratitude
I believe we can change how we feel – it is all about our attitude. We sometimes get into a particular mindset and then find it hard to focus on the happier things that happen. What we need to do is to experience more joy. And regularly practicing an attitude of gratitude really does evoke joy.
Appreciation for Earth and Nature
Another way to do this is by trying to get more in touch with the natural world all around us. When you are out and about on a walk with your dog, take the time to stop and really appreciate Earth and Nature. Don’t rush – take your time, look around you and really notice the signs and symbols of nature. Feel the connection to life itself. You maybe surprised at what you notice. 🙂
A Simple Thank You
Remember to say thank you to your partner, your friends and colleagues. An interesting statistic shows that 81% of people at work said they would work harder if their work was appreciated and their boss said thank you from time to time. Feel the joy of life’s goodness in your life – start your Gratitude Journal this week.
