With a little help from Kirstie Allsopp, Phil Spencer and the researchers from Relocation, Relocation, we have found the perfect home and business. It took us five years of searching – both on our own and with help from specialist home search companies. During the filming of the programme, Kirsty and Phil took us to four properties, the last of which was East Bowerland Farm. Although not quite in the area we were searching — and definitely far above budget — it was the perfect fit. It literally had it all.
The farmhouse is such an interesting period property and the cottage apartments are delightful. We’ve stayed in them ourselves and guarantee you’ll love them!
Bowerland has a long and varied history — in 1254 it was known as ‘Borland’. By 1578 — when it changed hands for fifty two pounds twelve shillings and six pence — it had become ‘Bowerlande’.
The heart of Bowerland – or Boerland as it was known in the 13th century, is an ancient Devon farm courtyard set on Dartmoor’s doorstep. It is located just two miles from the spectacular Meldon Reservoir. East Bowerland Farm was a large, thriving farm, with some 400+ acres, and numerous farm buildings. But the land was sold off and the remaining 8 acres is all that is left, alongside the existing developed buildings and of course some of the old original farm buildings.
Bowerland is now a period style farmhouse with two unique and individual 4-star courtyard cottage apartments. We have our very own borehole, providing both our human and doggy guests with healthy spring water. We also have solar panels to help with electricity demand, and we recycle plastics, glass, papers, etc. Click HERE for more information about our cottage apartments.
